A rematch or re-boxing (Japanese: 再戦 rematch) is a second or subsequent battle against a Trainer or Pokémon.
In the cadre series games, information technology is mandatory for the role player to defeat certain Trainers to advance within the game. Technically, if the actor is defeated, they are given the chance to battle this opponent over again until defeated (disallowment infrequent circumstances), but this isn't considered a rematch.
Nigh of the time, however, if a Trainer is defeated, that Trainer will not be bachelor for a rematch until sure conditions have been met. When Trainers normally hold to rematch, their Pokémon will have become stronger (level upwards or evolution), or they would already have acquired more Pokémon (sometimes from another region, once the player has obtained the National Pokédex).
Types of rematch
Regular Trainers
From Generation Ii onwards, with the exception of Pokémon Black and White and 10 and Y, some regular Trainers found along normal routes and caves can be challenged for a rematch.
In Pokémon Gilded, Silver, and Crystal and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can substitution Pokégear phone numbers with specific Trainers, allowing them to contact the player for a rematch. Note that Trainers have to be rebattled as presently as possible, otherwise the gamble to do so will disappear.
In Pokémon Gold, Silvery, and Crystal, the number of difficulty levels and triggers are divers individually for each Trainer. Sure rematches are available but in Gold and Silver, while others are only in Crystal. The following events are triggers for new rematches:
- Reaching a new urban center/town in Johto, starting with Goldenrod City
- Reaching the Lake of Rage
- Defeating Team Rocket at Mahogany Town or Goldenrod City
- Becoming Champion
- Returning the Automobile Part to the Kanto Power Plant
Additionally, in Gilded and Silverish, the player will battle the strongest team available, but in Crystal, each squad has to be battled in order (including fighting the initial team over again).
In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Trainers' teams have three dissimilar difficulty levels: the offset level is used in the first rematch, the second after the player has starting time entered the Hall of Fame, and the third afterward the player has obtained all xvi Badges.
In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the PokéNav'south Trainer's Optics or Match Call has similar functions to the Pokégear, keeping track of Trainers who eventually want to re-boxing the player. Regular Trainers are eligible for rematches later on obtaining the Residue Badge; in one case information technology is obtained, if the player is on a map with eligible Trainers, each Trainer on the map has a separate 31% risk to demand a rematch every 255 steps.[one]
In Pokémon Omega Cherry-red and Alpha Sapphire, the Trainer's Eye part returns, and Trainers are ready for a rematch more than frequently than in Generation III; in these games, the Trainers' teams improve as the player progresses through the game, and are at their strongest after the player has entered the Hall of Fame.
In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, while outdoors, the player can use the Vs. Seeker to randomly make nearby Trainers ready for a rematch. Sure Trainers have stronger teams, depending on how far the player is through the game, as long equally they accept defeated that Trainer's previous party. New Vs. Seeker parties are unlocked at the following events:
- Obtaining the Vs. Seeker
- Arriving in Celadon City FR LG /defeating Fantina D P /defeating Crasher Wake Pt
- Arriving in Fuchsia City FR LG /capturing or defeating the cover Legendary Pokémon D P Pt

Some Trainers may replace their Pokémon. Pokémon Breeders in Black 2 and White 2 will re-challenge the player upon sight (every bit long as the histrion has left the surface area since their last battle), even if the player had previously defeated them; withal, their teams remain the same during each battle.
In Pokémon X and Y, Trainers in the Battle Chateau can be battled each fourth dimension that Trainer has entered the Battle Chateau. Just those whose rank is the same as or lower than the player's volition appear. The player tin can purchase writs to accept an outcome on three different factors (party levels, prize money, and Trainer arrival rate) for the remainder of that 24-hour interval, although issued writs tin can exist swapped out if the new one has the same type of effect.

This section is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and consummate it. Reason: Are effort values awarded in mandatory captures? Do rematches besides utilize for wild Mythical Pokémon? Stakataka/Blacephalon in USUM: practise they reappear if defeated? |
In all games, beingness defeated by a Legendary Pokémon does not cause it to disappear. In all games in which roaming Pokémon be, fleeing from them does not cause them to permanently disappear; the game simply behaves the same equally if they were the ones to abscond.
Prior to Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, fleeing from stationary Legendary Pokémon causes the Pokémon to permanently disappear.
In Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald, if the player flees from a stationary Legendary Pokémon, it volition reappear upon leaving and re-inbound the room. The game informs the thespian that "The <Pokémon> flew away!". If the actor defeats an outcome exclusive Legendary/Mythical Pokémon, it reappears later the player side by side enters the Hall of Fame.
In Pokémon Platinum, if the player defeats or flees from a stationary Legendary Pokémon, information technology reappears afterwards the player side by side enters the Hall of Fame. If the role player defeats a roaming Pokémon, it will reappear only after the actor has re-triggered the issue which caused it to first roaming; for example, the player must talk to Professor Oak to cause a Legendary bird to resume roaming. If the player flees from or defeats Origin Forme Giratina in the Distortion World, it volition reappear in Turnback Cave in its Altered Forme, where it behaves in the same fashion equally all other stationary Legendary Pokémon.
This was extended to all stationary Pokémon (red Gyarados, Sudowoodo, and Snorlax) in HeartGold and SoulSilver. If Suicune is defeated or fled from, Eusine volition annotate on this fact, and it volition instead reappear at the Burned Tower, where it behaves in the same manner as all other stationary Legendary Pokémon. If Ho-Oh HG or Lugia SS is defeated or fled from during the storyline, the Kimono Girls will comment on this fact before leaving; however, the Pokémon still comport similar any other stationary Pokémon.
In Pokémon Black and White, Reshiram B or Zekrom W must be caught; defeating, fleeing from or losing to the Pokémon does not cause information technology to disappear, the battle yields no experience, and the story cannot be progressed until information technology is defenseless. Withal, if the player has a full party and PC, information technology is possible to progress without communicable it, in which case it instead appears at Dragonspiral Tower after defeating Ghetsis, where it behaves in the same way as all other stationary Legendary Pokémon, except that information technology will still not give any experience points.
In Pokémon X and Y, Xerneas X or Yveltal Y must be caught; defeating, fleeing from or losing to it does not cause it to disappear, the battle yields no experience, and the story cannot be progressed until it is caught. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage System does not become available until subsequently the player catches it, so it is not possible to avoid the capture even if the actor'southward political party and PC are both full.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, if the player defeats Groudon OR or Kyogre Equally instead of catching them in the main story, they will reappear in the Cave of Origin after entering the Hall of Fame. During the Delta Episode, Rayquaza must exist caught; defeating, fleeing from or losing to it does not crusade information technology to disappear, the battle yields no experience, and the story cannot be progressed until it is caught. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage Organization does non become available until afterwards the player catches Rayquaza, and so information technology is not possible to avert the capture even if the role player's political party and PC are both full. If the histrion flees from or defeats Deoxys in during the Delta Episode, information technology volition reappear at the Dragonhark chantry atop the Heaven Pillar after entering the Hall of Fame over again, where information technology behaves in the same way as all other stationary Legendary Pokémon.
In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Solgaleo S or Lunala 1000 must be caught; defeating, fleeing from or losing to it does not cause information technology to disappear, the battle yields no experience, and the story cannot be progressed until information technology is caught. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage System does not become available until subsequently the role player catches the Legendary Pokémon. If the player defeats, flees from, or loses to Tapu Koko instead of catching it during the post-credits event, Lillie will annotate on this fact, and Tapu Koko will immediately be bachelor to battle again at the Ruins of Conflict. If the actor defeats, flees from or loses to a roaming Ultra Beast or Necrozma, it will continue to reappear in the expanse until information technology is caught (the game reassures the player that it is all the same in the expanse).
In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Solgaleo US or Lunala UM must exist defenseless for it to disappear; defeating, fleeing from or losing to information technology does not cause information technology to disappear and the boxing yields no experience. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage Organisation does not become available until after the player catches the Legendary Pokémon.
