LOOK UP THE definition of "Garbage" & it's likely that you will find a photo of Walter Richard Ducharme. Not only was this dumpster fire questioned 2 separate times regarding the abduction & murder of Jennifer Odom, he was involved in a triangle of trash that had investigators wondering what his & the involvement was. Short of a handful of news articles, there hasn't been a lot of info released on Walter. Here's what we know:
• WHITE MALE, APPROXIMATELY 31 YEAR'S OLD (at the time of the murder).
• THIN, WIRY BUILD; HAS DARK HAIR & A GOATEE.
• SPENT MOST OF HIS LIFE RESIDING IN MAINE.
• HAS BEEN MARRIED & DIVORCED TWICE.
• RESIDED IN PASCO COUNTY AT THE TIME OF THE ABDUCTION/MURDER.
• SECOND WIFE (Kimberly Ann Scott) WAS A RESIDENT OF PASCO COUNTY & THEY MET & MARRIED THERE IN APRIL OF 1993.
• LENGTHY CRIMINAL HISTORY (dating back to 1987)…BEEN IN & OUT OF PRISON.
CRIMINAL HISTORY:1) Carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle
2) Drunk Driving
3) DWLSR
4) B & E
5) Theft
6) Criminal Mischief
7) Exposing Himself To A Minor (he served 20 days in jail & paid a $670 fine…Was NOT made to register as a sex offender.)
ADDITIONALLY, DUCHARME GOT busted several times for violating a domestic violence order that his 1st wife took out against him because, you guessed it, he was a wife beater on top of everything else. Wife number 1, Barbara Lemay, reported that he had a drinking problem & was violent against her. Violence would be a common theme in Ducharme's relationships. In May of 1993, after only being married a month, he was picked up for beating his 2nd wife; At the time of the assault, she was pregnant. For now, let's put a REALLY big pin in her…As for Walter, he pled "No Contest" to the assault, was given 6 months probation & slapped with a DV Injunction. He must have taken that injunction seriously as soon after it was issued he fled back to his home state of Maine, thus violating the terms of his probation.
OTHER THAN HIS shady past, how did Walter land on law enforcement's radar? Well, that's quite an interesting story. I may have left a couple of "What We Know" facts out of the list above. The missing facts are as follows:
- WHILE LIVING IN THE AREA HE WAS WORKING AS A DAY LABORER.
- HE HELD JOBS IN CONSTRUCTION, LANDSCAPING & PRESSURE CLEANING.
- QUESTIONED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT IN 1996 & AGAIN IN 1998…FLED BOTH TIMES TO AVOID SPEAKING WITH THEM.
THE DUCHARME RUNDOWN
THE SERIES OF events that started the Ducharme sh$t show is nothing short of spectacular…And by "spectacular", I mean insanely ridiculous & at times, hard to follow! It started soon after Walter fled, wife #2, told police that he was involved in the murder of Jennifer Odom. The specifics of what she said are unknown (at least to the public), however, it was apparently legit enough to have Walter picked up by police in Maine & held while Hernando detectives hopped a flight so that they could question him in person. Soon after they interviewed him, they returned to Florida…Without Walter Ducharme.
WHATEVER DETECTIVES HAD on Ducharme in 1996, it wasn't enough to extradite him back to Florida BUT he certainly wasn't cleared as a suspect. 2 years would pass before detectives would return to Maine for a 2nd round of questioning. When Ducharme got wind of their return, he ran. He was apprehended in New Hampshire after an 8 day manhunt, involving 3 different law enforcement agencies.

WHETHER OR NOT his running was a sign of his guilt, who knows BUT Law Enforcement definitely had an opinion. A spokesperson for the NHPD even went on record with the following statement:
THIS TIME WALTER would get a free "trip" back to Florida where he would FINALLY stand before a grand jury.
ENOUGH TO INDICT?
TWO MONTHS LATER the grand jury convened. Though it doesn't appear that the details of the hearing are public, the SAO must have felt that the case they were presenting was strong enough to get the indictment.
WHAT EXACTLY DID THEY HAVE?
